Auto body Repairs Using Sand Blasting Equipment

A restoration requires you to make a choice as to which method you are going to use. In order to do this you really need to categorize the levels of restoration.

Category One – Light to Medium fix ups

Mechanical repairs and repainting

The basic mechanical work is done first to ensure safety of the vehicle components. This followed by minor body works and refinishing touch ups.

Mechanical repairs with replacements and refinishing

Some mechanical parts are replaced as needed. Little more detail is required in the bodywork.

Category Two – In Depth Restoration

Similar to the mechanical repairs with replacements with the refinishing more in depth. Some taking apart of the vehicle is required to attend to rust and corrosion of key parts. Items have to cleaned, refurbished or replaced such as drive train parts, suspension and underbody parts. Close color match of body is required and trim may need replacing. Cars restored under this category are often pampered and not used on a daily basis.

Category Three – Just off the Assembly Line

Restoration here entails making the car look like it’s just been manufactured. Showroom quality. No body fill can be used in these restorations as well as fiberglass body panels except for some Corvettes.

Getting Down to Sandblasting

Sandblasters work off of compressed air and are either pressure feed or suction feed which are the cheaper of the two. The only drawback is that part of their energy goes into drawing up the material however; they don’t require an expensive pressure tank.

Pressure feeds do require a pressurized tank, but they work extremely well.

Sandblasting is effective cost saving and messy. Should only be done outdoors. With the right grade of sand the results taking it right down to the metal and removing the rust pits. It works effectively on other parts as well. Make sure you apply a flash rust treatment to prevent rust till you get the primer on.

The one thing to remember about sandblasting is do not over do it. As soon as you hit the bare metal stop.

You can use silica sand for various other grades just be sure to be careful with what you use. For light touches, you can use the ground or English walnut shells.

The siphon blasters are a lot less expensive than the pressure blasters. Remember to remove the hardware and trim before blasting and make sure you wear the proper body protection as well ensuring you have a proper hood and gloves. Preferably, a supplied air hood would be ideal.

Sandblasting can be extremely effective provided the right techniques, tools and materials are used in a safe environment. Many individuals are against sand blasting because of the damage it can cause. They are right it can work against you but only if you go beyond what is required. The whole key to success is stopping when you hit the bare metal.

The operators of the present-day CNC cutting machine demonstrate many of the same skills as those possessed by various traditional craftsmen. The operators of the CNC cutting machine include the men and women who design and make cabinets, woodwork, signs, and a whole range of metal, solid surface and plastic objects. The manufacturers who employ these operators know how important it is to have a good quality CNC cutting machine.

A good quality CNC cutting machine has a cutting table that covers the area bounded by a length of four feet and a width of eight feet. A quality table can handle satisfactorily a standard 4 x 8 plate of metal, wood, plastic, glass, or stone. A table that lacks a sufficient length or width will make it necessary for the operator to repeatedly reposition the plate. Operators of the CNC cutting machine refer to such repositioning as indexing.

A good basic CNC cutting machine does both plasma and oxyfuel cutting. Refinements on a basic cutting machine might provide it with the ability to perform other functions, functions such as:

-spotting holes for drilling

-drilling aluminum

-cutting a shape in the sides or end of tubing

-routing wooden shapes.

Other modifications on a CNC cutting machine might be directed at installation of the equipment for laser or water jet cutting.

The selection of a CNC cutting machine will be primarily determined by the nature of cutting that will be performed by the machine operator. For some operations, it will be necessary to do only straight cutting. For other operations, the cutting machine must perform bevel cutting. Bevel cutting allows the operator to trim, reduce, shave, and pare the material in the plate.

Both types of cutting will subject the CNC cutting machine to a fair amount of wear and tear. The manufacturer therefore needs to purchase a machine with adequate customer support. Such support should include the availability of spare parts. An absence of spare parts could require that the electronics of the CNC cutting machine undergo a retrofitting.

A need for retrofitting would deprive the operator of important production time. The need for retrofitting would diminish the quantity of goods that could be sold to the consumer. The need for retrofitting leads to a decrease in the amount of time that the operator will be spending at the CNC cutting machine. That is why the availability of spare parts for a malfunctioning CNC cutting machine remains one of the two chief concerns of the manufacturer. A second prime concern is the size of the cutting table.

The operator of a CNC cutting machine that needs to spend a large percent of time indexing will not have much time to spend on the actual cutting. Hence, the manufacturer will have much less product. Fewer products from the manufacturing facility translate into fewer products on the shelf. Consequently, the need for operators to spend time indexing can prove a detriment to the companys bottom line. A good sales volume reflects the well-planned purchase of a CNC cutting machine.

United States energy department on its forecast, said that crude oil production in US is expected to rise to a life time high in the year of 2013. The administrators of energy information have also said on their review on Tuesday that, this rate will rise quarter on quarter in between 2013 to 2014.

With the statistical data of EIA, the information administrators of US energy are claiming that the production of crude oil will grow up to 900,000 barrels per day in the year of 2013, where in 2012, it was recorded at the rate of 7.3 million barrels per day. The forecast is showing a graph of 300,000 barrels per day increasing from the rates which were recorded in December, 2012.

This rapid increase is going to be achieved by the improvements of technology in US energy industries. In last five years, they are applying the most updated technology called fracking or to be certain horizontal drilling & hydraulic fracturing technology. This technology has allowed the producers to transform, “tight rock” formations in to tap shale oil.

The success of this new technology application is about to bring a revolution in the market of US Energy Department. EIA estimates that the whole achievement will be able to experience in the market from the year of 2014. All these estimates are just bolstering the claim which was out in the beginning of 2010 that, by the end of this decade, US energy sector will be completely independent.

The market analysts are saying that is all these projections of US energy department come to the nearer points of accuracy, the production of US crude oil will raise to 40% in between 2011 to 2014. The rate is almost 50% higher than what was recorded in the beginning of this decade.

Administrator of the EIA, Adam Sieminski, said that- as output in North Dakota’s Bakken formation and Texas’s Eagle Ford fields has risen sharply over the past 12 months, U.S. producers were becoming even more prolific. The learning curve in the Bakken and Eagle Ford fields, which is where the biggest part of this increase is coming from, has been pretty steep, the long-term outlook beyond 2020 suggested production from shale fields in the United States may plateau it was possible analysts were still underestimating the potential of U.S. shale oil output in the short-term.

With the rise of production, there is also news that the price of oil is going to be up in 2013. West Texas Company of intermediate oil will keep its price on $89.54 per barrel, from the price of $88.38 in 2012. The Company that represents the benchmark grade of almost half of the world is going to provide a barrel on the rate of $105.17 for Brent Oil in the year of 2013.

Brent Oil, too, is going to hit highs in the next fiscal year, most of the analysts say. Average cost of imported & domestic grades that are being used by US refiners is going to rise almost 1.2%.
